Upcycling...........

Hello

It's the best time of the week - DIGI CHOOSDAY CHALLENGE DAY - whoooooooo! Which means a new challenge week and a NEW DISCOUNT CODE to get money off your digi purchases - how cool is that!?

Remember the easiest way to keep up with all things POLKADOODLES is sign up to the newsletter which you can do here.

As always our theme for the challenges for you is 'Anything Goes' but the design team have a theme to follow.  This weeks challenge for the design team is to recycle or upcycle.

I'm not going to lie nothing gets to stay in my house long enough for the chance for me to recycle and I didn't know what upcycle meant! So I googled upcycle and the result is this:

'reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.'

Result! I can totally make something better than the original...........can't I?  So about three hours later of rummaging through the house to find something I could 'make better' I found a large basic candle I had found in the back of my electrical appliances cupboard (don't ask).

I then remembered somewhere in the abyss of my craft cupboard, I had tissue paper I bought like four years ago for the sole purpose of making personal candles, so that took another few minutes (hours) to find THAT.  Then I needed to find an image.

Hmmmmmm - you're me, you have the whole Polkadoodles library at your fingertips, what image do you use? Yip, you guessed it, I was all over 'Serenity'. I cannot help it, I LOVE her! You can find the collection here.  I used the precolured image of 'Serenity Joyful' which is a precolured image on the main collection but if you want to colour her yourself, you can find her as an individual stamp here.

My tissue paper is A5 in size. I taped it to the center of simple A4 copy paper, then printed it. My printer smeared a little as I had added a sentiment, so after repeated attempts to make this not happen, I simply cut the sentiment off. Life's too short after all..............lol!

Once you remove the tissue paper from the copy paper, I cut round the image to make it more manageable.

I positioned the image where I wanted it then I wrapped the whole candle in greaseproof paper. I then used my heat gun to merge the image with the candle. Be CAREFUL - this can get very hot and I advise you not to touch the candle immediately because it can burn!

So there you have it. A plain boring candle which is now a pretty candle! Totally nailed upcycling (giggles to myself).

Anyhow, go over to the main blog and see what amazing projects the design team have come up with.

See you soon!

Hugs
