Hello!
Well this being part of a Design Team thing has got me so inspired and full of crafty mojo that I have started entering challenges, I know, I'm totally playing outside of the box now! Even more inspiring(?) I am itchy to try new things, so much so, that tonight I think I tried to do vintage.........I even inked the edges of the papers. I blame the fabulous Nikky Hall and my fellow DT members from Digi Choosday, methinks they have created a monster. LOL!!!!
Now, just to caveat this card; I am suffering the after effects of a migraine, so there are three 'happy' accidents that occurred during the construction of this card tonight. Now, I can hear my darling other half muttering that I can't be suffering from a migraine that much if I'm faffing about with cards; and yes, usually I agree with him (he'll be pleased that's in writing!) BUT I needed to de-stress and there is nothing more relaxing than crafting. Trust me............
So without further ado, here is tonight's creation:
You must excuse the awful lighting, my Ottlite is essential but not really the best light to take pics in!
I made a 6x6 card, with a taupe mat cardstock and the blue paper and the fawn papers are both from my stash. I inked the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink. I also recently got my hands on Tim Holtz's Distress Tool, not a clue what I am doing with it, but I attacked the papers enthusiastically regardless!
The stamp is from Lili of the Valley; James with Heart, I coloured him with my Graph'It Markers which you can get from Polkadoodles. I tried out the 'textured' look, I think he came out well, but I may be biased.
The markers I used are as follows:
Fur: 9303, 9304, 9305, 9306, 9307, 9500 with a little bit of 4135 round ears, paws & feet
Muzzle: 4135, 9500, 9503
Heart: 5210, 5220, 5245, 4135, 4175 (patch)
Flower: 8240, 8260, 5210, 5220 5245
9909 to redot his peepers (eyes)
I wanted a simple cut, so I used a Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities Oval. Now the first of the happy accidents; when I went to emboss, the stupid die (dies fault not mine - ha!) moved. Not once, but twice because I like to run it through the machine twice to get a deep emboss. So I got a triple emboss effect on the top right of the die cut. Maybe I'm more relaxed due to my migraine medication but I kinda liked it, so I tried to replicate it by deliberately misaligning the die again on the bottom left. Does it work??
Now happy accident number 2 happened immediately after I embossed. I inked the edge with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, yeah, it was supposed to be Antique Linen, totally not even in the same colour market; but not to be beaten, I inked it again with antique linen. Again, it could be the pills, but I kinda liked this too!
So two mishaps down, one to go!
I made this card with the multiple heart features as I wish to join in the fun, with the new 'We Do Doobadoo' Challenge and the challenge for their first week is 'hearts'. I don't have any of the Doobadoo products yet, but don't worry they are on their way, and like me you can order yours here. However, I have great dies that can give me hearts, so I used Spellbinders - Heartfelt Creations Timeless Amour Die, which gave me these lovely die cuts:
And those of you who are eagle eyed, will see mistake number 3. Inked in the die, inked out of the die! Sigh. However, I decided at this point to just go with it! :)
I finished it off with a 'masculine' grosgrain ribbon and some vintage buttons, and there I have my first vintage card and Doobadoo challenge entry. In fact I am feeling so bold, I have decided to also support another of Nikky's challenges and that is this weeks Graph'It Marker Challenge Blog - the theme is Male Colours; well the stamp is called 'James', he's male and my colours are vintage blue and fawn, that's male........................yeah, I'm stretching a bit ;)
So, I hope you like the card, it's another out of my comfort zone, but I really enjoyed it and if like me, you are ready to join in with all the fab challenges that Nikky and the rest of the team do, pop along to her fantastic blogs and take part too!
Thanks for visiting, as always.
Hugs
Yvonne x
